D’Avenza Tradition

British sartorial tradition, American oriented mass production, Italian creativity: the merging of these three elements resulted in the establishment of d’Avenza, in 1957. Credit for the intuition goes to Simon Ackermann, a legendary British tailor, he was also the founder of Chester Barrie. The location on the other hand is truly Italian, as the company is settled in Carrara. Its name comes from one of the town’s districts, “Avenza”, though given a touch of nobility through the addition of a “ d’ ”.

Success shone immediately. The d’Avenza “shoulder” is soon established as a feature mark, identified all over Italy for its extraordinary lightness and unique elegance, and proves superior in quality to the classical “shoulders” of the Neapolitan sartorial tradition. Worldwide famous American actors, such as Cary Grant, Tyron Power and Gregory Peck, are to be spotted in the d’Avenza boutique at the corner of Via Condotti, during their stay in Rome. The first official testimonial for the brand is Marcello Mastroianni, raising star of the Italian Cinema best know from his role in “La Dolce Vita”.

At the beginning of the Seventies d’Avenza is a worldwide famous name.
These are the years of the final seal on international fame for the company, that through its history to this day has proved to be a great symbol of Italian excellence and creativity all over the world.
